Izzy Canbury

Izzy Canbury, an Associate Solicitor, has been with the firm since 2016. Izzy’s areas of expertise include settlement agreements and contractual disputes, particularly in respect of senior professionals. In addition, she has significant experience in dealing with cases relating to sex, race, disability, and pregnancy discrimination. Izzy has also advised on many cases relating to unlawful deductions from wages, unfair and constructive unfair dismissal, and restrictive covenant enforcement.

Prior to join Averta, Izzy has a successful career outside of the law, most notably in academic publishing. Having decided to pursue here interest in law, Izzy qualified as a solicitor in 2020 after studying with BPP. Izzy also holds a B.A. in Medieval English and History from the University of Birmingham.

Izzy was drawn to employment law by a recognition of the distress that employment disputes can cause to an individual and that this distress is often dismissed or underestimated. Having volunteered with the Samaritans, Izzy uses her training in active listening to offer her clients a support which is both pragmatic and commercially aware, and empathetic.

Izzy is a member of the Employment Law Association and Birmingham Law Society. Izzy has served on BPS Birmingham Future’s Aspire committee which works to promote both Birmingham as a centre of professional services but also to encourage inclusivity and accessibility within the professional services in the city.

In her free time, Izzy enjoys getting back to nature and is a keen hiker and advanced open water scuba diver. She is an unapologetic cat person, speaks bad German and bakes good cakes!
