I’ve always enjoyed helping clients navigate complex employment issues, simplifying the process and delivering practical solutions that work for them.

Vastly experienced

Martin has dedicated nearly four decades to employment law, establishing himself as one of the UK’s most experienced and respected practitioners. Starting his career in Birmingham, Martin qualified in 1986 with Pinsent & Co and later became a partner at Wragge & Co (now Gowling WLG), where he spent over 25 years in senior roles, including as ‘Of Counsel’.

His expertise spans a wide range of employment issues, including business protection, restrictive covenants, TUPE, Employment Tribunal claims, collective rights, and service agreements tied to private equity transactions. He has also spent significant time advising professional services firms and law firms on sensitive and high-profile matters.

Reputation for excellence

Martin’s reputation for excellence is reflected in his recognition in the Legal 500 Hall of Fame and as a Senior Statesperson in employment law by Chambers UK. These awards highlight his longstanding involvement in market-leading work and his ability to deliver strategic, high-value advice to clients.

At Averta, Martin brings his wealth of experience to support senior executives and businesses facing complex employment challenges. Whether it’s advising on disputes, conducting investigations, or navigating business-critical employment matters, Martin’s focus is on achieving practical, results-driven outcomes.

Outside of work his family are a focus of his time, together with his role as a school governor. His interests include almost all sports ( as a spectator for the most part), skiing, film, food, wine, reading, politics and travel.
